The late Stephen Browne had an insight that startled me: Often conservatives or libertarians think that college aged youngsters are attracted to the Left because they believe socialism betokens some sort of humanitarian utopian ideals. Browne observed and reported that what was really the attraction was the promise of power over others and being given the license to riot and bully others. Look at the antics of Antifa on the streets of downtown Portland interfering with traffic and often bullying senior citizens: that is the real face of the new left.
