I think Democrats observed how the phrase "defending our Republic" worked so well for rallying Republicans, and so decided they needed an equivalent term. The problem is, "defending our Republic" means, to Republican voters, restoring respect for the constitution in all three branches - a return to Normal Order in Congress, an Executive faithfully and honestly executing laws irrespective of their agreement with those laws, and a Judiciary which adjudicates the laws as written and without bias. "Defending our Democracy" is simply an appeal to mob rule - "we win no matter what" irrespective of the results of the democratic process. Hence, "democratcy" is more apt.
Not only are the Democrats working against the best interests of the USA, they're stealing our money to do it. I assume the government understands English well enough to realize that telling someone their money (freely given, by the way) was being spent on ice cream for a doddering geriatric president when in fact it was being used to pay for socialist/communist/progressive campaigns, that money is being stolen (theft by deception). Sounds to me like a whole bunch of bureaucrats should be looking at theft charges for the billions of dollars they misappropriated through USAID and other front organizations along with the elected and appointed government officials that knew it was happening and allowed it.
"What Democrats are doing is the antithesis of democracy." Yes that is true, but Democrats have something that Republicans, for the most part, don't, which is an unfathomably stupid voter base. When we listen to Democrat leaders, remember that they are saying things that seem stupid to us because they are not talking to us, or indeed to anyone of even moderate intelligence. They are talking to their voters. So when they say they're "defending democracy", their sheeple simply believe it. There's nothing to be lost by lying when one's audience is as dumb as a rock.

Democrats are happiest when their actions are destructive to America. It's a huge high for them.
