The Nathan Jessup Moment
We want bioweapons researchers on that wall, we NEED them on that wall!
My wonderful Senator, Willard Mittens Romney, has accused Tulsi Gabbard of treason, tweeting she is “parroting false Russian propaganda. Her treasonous lies may well cost lives.”
What is that propaganda?
Gabbard tweeted that the US is funding biolabs in Ukraine, saying, “There are 25+ US-funded biolabs in Ukraine which if breached would release & spread deadly pathogens to US/world.”
Mark Levin said last night these are Soviet era facilities the US is controlling because the are leftovers from the Cold War and for God’s sake, America isn’t doing bioweapons research in labs designed by the Soviets to do bioweapon research.
Holy crap, Batman!
This is exactly why I have issues with the “Russia bad (even though they are) and Ukraine good (which they aren’t as good as advertised) dichotomy, so let’s go to war with Russia” push.
As much as I hate to go against Mark, the first thing I would note is that Gabbard never said there was bioweapon research ongoing. That’s the leap many are taking. The slimy Victoria Nuland admitted in Congressional testimony that labs exist, so the labs are there.
As to Mr. Levin, the Cold War ended over three decades ago – if there isn’t research of some sort going on there, then why are these labs still in operation? And the bigger question, if we knew that Russia was going to invade, why weren’t these labs destroyed? I mean, like a doomsday cult member predicting the end of the world in 72 hours, Biden predicted “the Russians were invading in three days” for about a month before they finally did.
I’ve warned about the budding love affair the GOP has with Gabbard. She’s a left-leaning Democrat, maybe not as far left as most of their party, but being not as far left doesn’t make her a Republican. Of course, it’s not like we don’t have squish Republicans, too. Gabbard’s stances puts her in Mittens territory – maybe Mittens is accusing her of treason because he sees competition in the space he occupies.
Anyway, let me ask this: just how difficult, after what we have learned about the roles of Saint Anthony of Fauci (who is currently MIA) and Peter Daszak of the EcoHealth Alliance in the Wuhan lab and the creation of Covid-19, is it to believe that the US is funding bioweapon research by calling it something else and doing it in labs in a country with a few less regulations than US labs are bound by?
The problem is that the US has lied about so much to cover their asses, they have destroyed every ounce of credibility they had – and in doing so, handed a propaganda weapon over to Russia and China.
Let me state for the record that I have no problem with bioweapons research conducted by the US. I fully expect Russia and China are doing it and if we don’t stay on top of the research, we put ourselves at a disadvantage. It is the same weapon of mass destruction threat nukes are, so research away.
Just stop being so bad at the security aspect of it.
And for God’s sake, stop doing research in an enemy country or in partnership with them. Did we learn nothing from Wuhan? Just stop lying about your lesser activities so much it destroys your credibility.
This is one of those things that everyone knows but we just don’t talk about because we don’t want to really know, even though we expect it to be done. If we are honest with ourselves, we want this to be a Colonel Nathan Jessup situation - we don't want the truth because deep down in places we don't talk about at parties, we want bioweapons researchers on that wall -- we need them on that wall.
This issue boils down to something I recently wrote about – moral certitude.
While American has never used chemical or bioweapons, both Russia and China have. Lying about Wuhan has given our enemies the opportunity to say, “See! They are doing it, too! They are no different than us!”
But we used to be different. We had the moral certitude to know what is right and wrong – and more than that, the rest of the world knew and could trust that we were so confident in our moral code that we would never use what we knew for anything other than to defend the world against chemical and biological threats.
Moral certitude allows you to study bad things without the threat of using what you discover. That’s not true with countries featuring a, how shall we say, a more “flexible” morality.
Gabbard may be right, she may be wrong.
But that’s not the point.
This is just like being in court – it isn’t about the truth; it is about constructing a narrative a jury will believe.
And thanks to Anthony Fauci and the Democrats, it is entirely believable the US is funding labs in Ukraine, and it is entirely believable that we have lost our moral certitude, that we are truly no better than Russia or China and can no longer be counted on to do the right thing.
Afghanistan was the first big example that America, at least under Democrat rule, cannot be believed or trusted.
They used to say what is good for General Motors is good for America. Well, that used to be true from a global perspective, what is good for America is good for the world.
Maybe Farid Zakaria at CNN finally got something right, maybe we are moving into a post-American age and Pax Americana is truly dead.
They should know, the media and the Democrats have been working for decades to destroy us and now, with help from the Democrats and our own bureaucracy, they might have just done it.
Good job, guys. Good job.
It is unlikely the United States has ever had anything like moral certitude. Ronald Reagan was a great communicator and his biblical talk about America being a "shining city on a hill" was bunk. Our founding fathers and the constitution they wrote were the only things exceptional about our nation. It is contrary to international law to create bio-weapons and the USA is not entitled to do so anymore than Iraq was.
As a firm believer in equity, I would vote for Tulsi in a New York minute: we have never had a hot woman who looks great in a bikini running the nation and she could not do worse than seven of the past eleven who have held the office of US president.
