In 2016, Trump shoved a potato in the tailpipe of the Hillary/Russia/DOJ Express. His election ended Conservative, Inc. for all intents and purposes. The Democrats have ended themselves.
I'm still not going to be putting any faith in the GOP. Fool me once... Shame on... Me. Fool me twice... Shame on... Won't be fooled again.
While Trump, a lifelong democrat, truly broke the republican party, there are still too many faux, neo, self described, but nowhere near, small 'c' conservatives, that have been dealing from the bottom of a stacked deck. when the democrat party finally implodes and we get a Gerald ford redux, those that used to be called RINO, but now make up 98% of the GOP, will say all the right things, but do all the wrong things, just as they've done since Clinton.
Best case scenario? Trump elected in '24 with DeSantis as VP. Trump won't be able to repair all the current administration has wrought, but he'll be able to point us in the right direction. If DeSantis can be the same Conservative he's displayed in Florida, then the Right could conceivably have 12 years to address all that ails us. a perfect time for the next "greatest generation" to come into Congress and fix the things that kept them at war for two decades fighting battles with both hands tied behind their backs.
Eject the new, Progressive, Justice Democrats and replace the republican, squishy, old guard whose one and only play is to roll over and piss themselves every time a democrat walks in the room. Do that, Conservatism and constitutionalism stands a chance. Do it not and Lincoln will be proven a prophet, because a house divided against itself cannot stand.
I have a little touch of Stockholm Syndrome where the GOP is concerned as well - and I sure as hell don't trust the Party as a whole. I've given up on donating to any GOP national organization and have focused on specific candidates and county level donations over the last several years. I agree the Trump/DeSantis scenario is the best case - but even then, there needs to be a cabinet just a dedicated and with just as thick a skin or it won't matter who sits behind the Resolute Desk. It is going to be an interesting couple of years as things shake out.
I agree. I figured that out way back in 1986 while working as a union welder in Ca. when Reagan signed the amnesty. The shop and the labor changed overnight. And I wondered how someone, Reagan, could ever believe that the democrats would actually provide the proper controls on immigration. I made it out by finishing college and becoming a computer programmer.
Where in CA in '86? I was in the Boilermakers/Blacksmiths I think it was local 6 out of Oakland back then. had a bunch of stuff on my card, but when I got to MN in '87-'88, all I could find was on call stuff at either the nuke plant or the refinery. I needed to feed & diaper two little boys, so the FiL & I started a home building business.
kinda miss working on the boats or getting sent to another state with my tools and a per diem. But I needed steady income and MN just didn't have it then.
After getting L.A.Certified I worked a few years in a non-union shop in San Fernando Ca. Then I went to work at Sierra Nevada Steel also in San Fernando building freeway signs and sometimes going in the field up and down the state installing them. It was the 509 union. Married with three kids full time welder and years of night college to get a degree in computer programming. It was quite a change from welding on Friday and computer programming the next Monday.

DeSantis not Trump, hopefully. Trump does not inspire the voters that grew to hate him. DeSantis will.
I hope that you are right, Michael.
AND just maybe a sufficient Real Republican Majority in the Senate to put the fake president where he and she belong.
