I thought about this after seeing the reports of DHS revoking "temporary" protected status of Hondurans who had been designated as such for 25 years - and noticing that the media unironically used the words "temporary" and "25 years" in the same sentence.
Politico had a post on X last month about Africa having a food shortage due to USAID cuts. It managed 258 likes, while my simple response, "Why doesn't Africa grow its own food?" garnered 1.1K likes. It seems many of us are sensible people.
I built a house in Mexico some years back. Finished in May. I was finishing up and went to a Vivero (a nursery) and asked for 3’-4’ plants. ‘No tengo, Senor. Pero…porque’. He didn’t have any and he was wondering why would I need this? I was planning on returning in the fall and wanted to come back to a full garden. He thought I was crazy. I went back to my home and spoke with my gardener. He explained if I planted a six inch plant it would be 3’-4’ in a month or two and he would have to hack it back twice at least by Noviembre. He broke off a twig from a bush in the garden and stuck it in the ground. He said ‘I won’t touch it. When you come back it will be 6’ tall.’ It was about 5’. I felt this about Venezuela. How can they be starving? You could grow enough on a balcony to not starve.

If "internal reform" requires outside intervention of some sort, when will that need end?
