Given the frequency that hate incidents have turned out to be hoaxes - perpetrated to "raise awareness" by the zealous opponents of hate, I can't say it is all that surprising that SPLC would be subsidizing it. It was a very reasonable business expense for them.
SPLC secretly pays hate groups a fraction of what the SPLC receives as government grants, so the various hate groups can provide ammunition for the SPLC gunners.
Without hate groups the SPLC might fail to exist and certainly cannot request government grants or funding to carry on.
The Left's rejection of reason, logic, and reality was jump-started in the 1970s with their promotion of abortion. By folding a lethal form of responsibility avoidance into their belief system, they found rejection of those traits to be necessary, especially as scientific progress reinforced theological arguments against their stance. With the premise of their belief being that the unborn aren't persons, like past attempts to justify slavery, the Holocaust, and all forms of human oppression before it, they've gone to any length to avoid questioning whether they may be wrong about that premise. That reality-denying habit has since spread to all other parts of their belief system, such as transsexuality, economics, & law enforcement. Their psychosis has become so complete that any efforts toward civil discourse using reason and logic are futile.
