We live in a rural area and do our banking at the little bank in the nearby town. When we opened our checking account with them several years ago, I wondered if we would be better off just staying with our previous bank, which was much bigger. After your story, I'm glad that we keep our money at that little podunk bank. I can pick up the phone and talk to a human being there without being re-routed to multiple extensions or put on hold.

We moved our money from TD Bank when we saw them freeze the Canadian Truckers’ accounts and after reading and listening to Glenn Beck’s advice. If more conservatives took their small, local banks and credit unions, they might get the message. Always check the website info for DEI and corporate governance bullshit to stay away from the bad guys.

Sorry for your troubles, Mike. I don’t think the local Wells Fargo GOP account had anything to do with it. You never gave them a problem and we took you off the account in 6 months, as they directed.

My friend in Ohio has been complaining about that bank, too, being slow to release payment on a condo she sold. More likely, servicing your account wasn’t profitable enough for them, another sign of a stressed economy.

Yet, there sits Wells, the proud owner of the "Most Fines and Sanctions" bank in the country for sketchy practices.

local is going to be way better! and now most local banks and cu’s have caught up in technology, which used to be an issue

Wells has made so many errors resulting in millions in fines for their fraudulent practices. A friend was a top executive there for decades. She said it was a golden handcuff but it was a terrible place to work. She was the designated hatchet woman who would appear at a poorly performing bank and fire everyone.

Her son went to work there after college. He said they were constantly pressuring them to open more accounts, telling them to sell annuities to old ladies who didn’t need tax deferral. He quit.

My thought is this is a good way to support local banks and credit unions. Go for it!

WF did the same process to us a decade ago. Long story short, it was a blessing in disguise.

Around that time, Scott Burns, a noted financial advisor, wrote a column - in a nutshell: If you don't want big banks having all the control, stop doing business with big banks.

Small, local banks usually become branches of big banks.

To date, we're very comfortable with our credit union experience. We finally made the big jump of them handling our business accounts and have had no issues. All credit unions aren't the same but we found building a "Cheers" relationship with ours was welcomed.
