America's Divorce Decree
The strain of the 2020 Covid-19 response uncovered irreconcilable differences.
I am of the considered opinion that 2020 will be remembered by historians as the year America finally split apart.
As a society, we became far more suspicious of each other as the national response to the WuFlu separated us into camps. It unified us at first, all of us trying to understand a path forward and looking to health “experts” for direction. It did not take too long to see that our “experts” were as clueless as we were. They pretended to be transparent while obfuscating, rather than admit they had no idea what that light on the dash was telling them, they started throwing fixes and parts at it, and as they did, the split began as most of us with common sense began to see the stark differences between their assertions and reality.
Very quickly, differences developed. Mask vs. anti-mask, vaccine vs. natural immunity. Covid was dangerous for people over sixty-five or with underlying health issues vs. vaccinating everybody, even babies and children. Voluntary vaccines vs. mandates. While we all wanted to believe, when people were arrested for being in parks and surfing alone and “15 days to stop the spread” turned into months on end of the closing of a national economy, we began to feel that we were being punished for the ignorance of the “experts” and their inability to conclusively articulate the risk we faced and the potential side effects of the path they had chosen.
Our institutions tried, failed, and then adopted an aggressive, defensive, and autocratic attitude to hide their arrogance and ignorance, especially when their directions were contradicted by reality. Four years hence, it is clear that most of what we were told was wrong, false, ineffective and they knew it when they were accusing people of being “anti-science” for simply asking them to explain their pontifications. We intuitively knew then, and know for a fact now, their reactions to our questions were based far more on covering their asses and far less on concern for public health.
The US government segregated Corporations from local businesses and allowed to them stay open while your local gym or bodega were forced to close by law enforcement assuming the guise of the Gestapo. Supply chains began to buckle, grocery store shelves began to empty, looking more like stores in the old Soviet Union than in America. People were expected to maintain six feet of separation, were forbidden for gathering in churches, attending funerals or visiting family and friends who were dying in the hospitals. We were witness to the rise of Cancel Culture, the Covid hysterics and the STASI-like informants, people fully intent upon feeding their need to feel superior by exposing others who were less than compliant.
And of course, there was money involved, lots of it. There always is.
The federal government poured billions of taxpayer dollars into the coffers of Big Pharma looking for a silver bullet.
Big Pharma used the vulnerability of the global public to pad their financials, public health employees like Anthony Fauci, cut backroom deals that made them rich and local, state and federal officers increased their span of control over the people they were sworn to serve.
And every bit of this served to decrease the trust in our institutions. We began to question if they even wanted to protect us. The final straw was when people ignored the evidence the answer to that question was “no” circled the wagons to defend the people who committed such a great fraud on not only America, but people around the world.
Is it any wonder we are where we are today?
Sadly, a split is exactly what the left wants. If we "split" it's over. Not just for us but for the world. That imminent nightmare, and nightmare it is, keeps me awake.
In retrospect for sure, and a bit at the time, the fooforall seemed planned to accomplish what had been repelled for more than a century --- the crippling of our way of governance and national cohesion. Too few in our nation seem to know that the USA has been unique in history --- a great many of the 195 nations members of the UN are ruled either by tyrants, despots, theothugs, or dictators. Being the exception, our nation has been under siege -- the success of our experiment is a threat to their continuing existence. Now we are burdened by elected and non-elected intent to follow that wretched example.
