I've never held that "diversity" is our strength, although it can be. Assimilation is important, but not the kind that makes everyone into a "white bread" society, without tortillas. You hit on the fact that our underlying unity is our principles. We've "borrowed" from each other for a very long time, and it's a good thing.
I recently read (and I seldom remember where I read anything) that we Americans can't move to Japan and become Japanese, or to India and become Indians. However, anybody can come to the United States and be an American. Unless I'm missing something, we're unique in that regard.
Exactly! While we don’t have a single culture our willingness to absorb or adapt elements of other cultures is unique. But we have found recently some cultures are so hidebound and rigid they can’t become Americans at heart.
Unfortunately we're extremely vulnerable to unethical individuals of all creeds and colors, AND have imported (and the public schools have indoctrinated) too many people accustomed to corruption who will be somewhere between either ignorant or complacent about it and outright enthuiastic about it and the negative impact it has on the country.
Multiculturalism has balkanized and destroyed our economy, govt and culture. Unless we return to a White Christian Nationalism, and reintroduce "blood and soil" along with those civilizational concepts you mentioned, we will fragment into several, separate nations. Nations at constant war with each other. The separations will occur along racial lines, communists against freedom patriots, drug cartels, etc.
I adhere to the great American orator on this, plus some things you said. “We’re the wretched refuge. Kicked out of every decent country of the world”). (small paraphrase at the end). “We’re mutts”. A melting pot of people. Doesn’t matter skin color. White, black, pink, green, were American. Or not. And nothing wrong with not being American but American is a blended culture of Freedom and Liberty. Used to be also respect for your neighbors. God given rights of Liberty. As you wrote “Property rights, rule of law, contract enforcement, a stable judicial system, free exchange, limited government, individual liberty— these are not ethnic traits. They are civilizational tools.” That is a cultural it’s just not rooted in race like French or Japan or China. That’s why others don’t get it.
