A Fine Mess
Democrats are usually better at escape plans...
Democrats may survive their most dangerous gambit – but then again, they may not.
As we say in my home state of Mississippi, “It ain’t lookin’ all that good.”
They are normally better at giving themselves enough wiggle room to slither out of just about anything. With enough slime, squirm and a healthy dose of plausible deniability, they have, at least historically, been able to get over, under, and/or around any misstep or failed assassination attempt.
They were so desperate to do two things necessary to retain power – and maybe build on it: 1) kill Donald Trump, literally or figuratively, and 2) hide Biden’s rapidly escalating mental infirmity, they figured they could get enough cover to get out from under any blame or responsibility.
What they did not really think through was an escape plan, at least one that did not leave them with Trump still standing, Biden on the rocks, and the media allied (for the moment) against them.
A few things are happening here, none of them good for Democrats.
They either truly didn’t know (or just didn’t want to know) about Biden’s cottage cheese brain (or knew and were lying about it to cover it up) or they figured just repeating the words “Trump” and “convicted felon” as many times as they could were a substitute for campaigning on actual policy successes, which are as scarce as hen’s teeth for this regime.
They were staggered that their lawfare did not work. They had three successes in a row. Two of them were civil cases - E. Jean Carroll and her nearly thirty-year-old allegations of sexual misconduct and Letitia James and her victimless “fraud” case featuring Arthur Engoron, judge, and amateur high-end real estate appraiser.
The wins in the civil cases were helpful, but they did not have the bang of a criminal conviction.
The big kahuna was the Bragg case based on a manufactured claim of…well, I am still not exactly sure what crime was committed, but with help from the DOJ, a partisan judge, and a Manhattan jury, they got their felony, or more accurately, felonies plural, thirty-four of them in fact.
“We have him this time. He is a convicted felon now,” they concluded.
That sentiment lasted until the next morning when they woke up from their night of heavy celebratory intoxication.
The hangover started when they realized Trump’s poll numbers went up and his donations skyrocketed after the conviction(s). None of his supporters cared about the, pardon the pun, “trumped up” charges in any of the three cases, each one its own specific example of manipulation of the law, manufactured crimes, “novel” legal theories, biased judges, and openly unfair prosecutions.
And to make it worse, the persuadable independents in the center were not persuaded.
The real problem now is there are too many eyewitnesses to the crooked way they got Trump charged and the extraordinary level of unfairness compared to how Democrats have been treated in similar cases. Too many millions of people also saw Biden’s mental decline – up close and in person. People may choose to deny what they saw in either case, but they are not stupid. At some level they know they have been taken for a ride by some dishonest people who do not care about this country unless they run it.
The real killer is that they have nowhere to go from here. They are now stuck with a putative nominee they cannot get rid of and an opponent they cannot kill.
They may find a way to do it, but dragging a corpse across a finish line is much easier than hauling it over a ten-foot-high chain link fence topped with razor wire.

There is absolutely NOTHING the evil, lawless Democrats won't do to keep Trump from assuming office.
Think about the 51 intelligence community creeps who are standing by
The only possible salvation for the Democrats lies in conservatives’ tendency to splinter themselves while the Democrats will hang together and hold their nose to vote for someone they detest in order to hold onto power. How often have we seen supposed ideological purists sabotage an otherwise likely Republican win because of some abstruse difference of opinion on some issue? Tea Party candidates knock out supposed RINO incumbents in the primaries only then to lose to more experienced Democrat politicos in the general election. As for the chaos at the southern border we can thank Paul Ryan for that as much as blaming Biden. The GOP must avoid snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
