A Conversation

I was randomly engaged over a couple of issues by a Democrat acquaintance, a friend of a friend, last week. Here's the result.

What follows is a relatively faithful transcription of a discussion (I asked for permission to record it) I was half of last week.

“Why do you hate us for dealing with complicated issues?” I was randomly asked by a one of those Affluent White Female Liberals – a Democrat - this week.

“Beg pardon?” I replied.

“We seem to be the only people who are interested in solving serious social issues while you only want to strip power from the government.”

“Mind if I record this? It sounds like something I might want to transcribe later.”

“I don’t care.”

“OK – let’s start with the fact that I don’t accept the premise that your party is interested in solving any serious issues, social or otherwise, but I’m afraid you have me on the second one, I do want to see government cut down to size. Which serious social issues are we talking about?”

“We are champions of the LGBTQ community that you hate, so that is a starting point.”

“OK. First, I don’t hate anyone in the LGBTQ community. What I hate is that Democrats use them as pawns, cannon fodder, to accuse us of imaginary crimes and then beat us over the head with a club of invented intolerance.”

“But I’ve read your posts. You spew hate toward queer and transgender people.”

“Not true. I’ve always been clear about gay people. I see being gay and being so-called “transgender” as two different things. I understand how, on an emotional level, a man can be attracted to another man and how a woman can be attracted to another woman – but that is different than alleged “transgenderism”. Transgenderism is not about being attracted to one sex or the other, it is about a literal change of sex, which I believe, and biological science is on my side here, is impossible.”

“Well, that is hate.”

“Not at all. It is simply a fact. I am sure there are gender confused, perhaps mentally ill, people who can never be what they believe they are and the cruelest irony rests in people who tell them they can be. My anger is reserved for the people who keep supporting the delusion that they can. A so-called trans-woman or trans-man will never be anything other than a drugged up, sometimes surgically butchered human who will be treated differently for the rest of their lives – and if you have read my posts, you no doubt know how I feel about parents who mentally and physically butcher their children to satisfy their own weaknesses and mental illness.”

“That is hate. There have always been trans people.”

“No, that is not hate, that is fact - and no, there have not always been “trans” people, at least not the way they are thought of today. I’ll agree that there have always been masculine women and feminine men, but their societies recognized them for who and what they were and accommodated them, those societies were never asked to completely reorder themselves and force everyone to pretend men were women and women were men. The latter is what is being asked of society today.”

“Well, you are wrong”.

“I accept you think so, but I’m afraid hundreds of thousands of years of human existence argues against your position. If I may, let me point out something. It is statistically impossible that biology is responsible for a concentration of actors, actresses, and music stars to have children, some like Marcia Gay Hardin, who all suffer from gender dysphoria. Cynthia Nixon just said that all her children are trans as are all the children of her friends. You claim to believe science; do you think this is possible? Parents are now acting out Munchausen by Proxy by actively “transing” their own children, some beginning before they can walk. That is certainly not nature, that is pure nurture. I just don’t believe it. The math just doesn’t add up.”

“Nature is evolving.”

“There is no evidence of that. Human chromosomes are XX and XY – there are deviations, of course, but those are no more statistically significant than they were a thousand years ago.”

“But more people are coming out as trans…”

“More people believing in a thing doesn’t make it real. Across the board, our kids are being subjected to aggressive messaging, and I believe they are dumber and less mature with every passing year, which is also a matter of statistical certainty. Know who is doing that to them? Adults. Their parents and the peers of their parents support social and educational systems that weaken kids in their most impressionable times in their lives. The problem isn’t the kids, it is the weakness of their parents.”

“You are impossible.”

“Perhaps. But I will never see a six-two man with a five o’clock shadow as woman just because he shows up in makeup, a dress, and heels.”

“More hate,” she said.

“It is clear that you are a fit for William F. Buckley’s definition then.”

“I can’t wait to hear it.”

“Buckley said that liberals claim to want to hear every side of an issue and yet are surprised to find that there is a side other than theirs.”

“I’m getting angry, I think our conversation is over.”

“I disagree. It was over before it began. That was Buckley’s point.”
