The Tao of Gaetz
Mattie Gaetz may be all the things he is being called by his opponents, but that doesn't make him wrong.
I’ve noted that I’m not a big fan of Mattie.
Has nothing to do with his political positions, I’ve just always thought he was one of those slick self-promoters who are really too smart by half – that is to say, not a genius.
But that doesn’t mean he is wrong.
The proof is in what is being said about the eight members of the congress who pulled the rug from under McCarthy. The insults that are being slung at them, calling them the “chaos caucus”, crazy, self-promoting, destructive, dangerous, angry, you name it, are telling. McCarthy made it personal when he said it happened because Gaetz hated him.
I was out for a Murph run this morning and while doing so, had my earbuds in catching up on the interesting parts of podcasts in which I have interest. I happened to turn to Megyn Kelly because I wanted to hear from the panels of legal experts she was planning to have on the show to discuss the prosecution of Sam Bankrun Fraud and their takes on the latest persecutions in TrumpWorld. She began with an unannounced and opportunistic interview with the former VP, Milquetoast Mikey Pence. Mikey said something that indicates none of these people get it. Mikey said:
“People appreciate that I’m a conservative but I’m not in a bad mood about it.”
Believe me, Mikey, you haven’t see conservatives in a bad mood yet.
Certainly, nobody but the eight congresspeople, Andy Biggs of Arizona, Ken Buck of Colorado, Tim Burchett of Tennessee, Eli Crane of Arizona, Matt Gaetz of Florida, Bob Good of Virginia, Nancy Mace of South Carolina, and Matt Rosendale of Montana, who finally grew tired with all the “consensus building” in Congress that always seems to benefit Democrats, gets it.
What Gaetz and the other seven did was necessary. That, I have no issue with.
What I do have issue with is the aftermath. It may work out if Jordan or Scalise become Speaker, but I can’t imagine any Democrat breaking ranks with the Borg Collective to give either any help, so they will need every single Republican to vote in favor of either. The Democrats hate Jordan about as much as they do Trump and a minion of theirs actually tried to kill Scalise - and there are some Republicans who hate Jordan about as much.
Pence is the epitome of people who believe we are still dealing with a political party that can be bargained with to reach a consensus or a compromise. As I have noted before, this isn’t the Democrat Party of Tip O’Neil. It ain’t even the Democrat Party of Tom Daschle, famously nicknamed the “Pit Yorkie” by Rush Limbaugh. The Democrat Party grew more left a little each year after the Reagan years, but they accelerated that growth after the 2000 election when they became the OG Election Deniers. I know Democrats my age who STILL believe Gore won Florida and the Supreme Court installed Bush. It has become an article of faith that in every election won by a Republican was corrupt and influenced by outside forces. In years past, the Democrats made the same arguments about vote security, the ability to tamper with voting machines and the way votes were counted as the GOP did in 2020, it’s just now those statements are somehow a federal crime punishable by imprisonment.
Hillary says we all just need a little vakay to the deprogramming camps.
The Democrats today are like Soviet era apparatchiks if Soviet apparatchiks were high on meth and PCP.
It goes without saying that the issues championed by the Eight – border security, historically rampant borrowing and spending, censorship instigated and leveraged by the Democrat government, no accountability for the billions sent to Ukraine, the Regime’s dictatorial actions, the persecution of Trump, an many more, are just not getting addressed. McCarthy gave the Democrats an out on the government shutdown with the deal to delay with yet another crap sandwich spending bill.
People out here in the everyday world trying to make ends meet under record inflation, falling incomes and rising taxes and government intrusion are tired of the DC two step the Democrats always seem to lead.
The majority of the Republican caucus still is NOT listening to their constituency, a constituency that is hurting while being expected to sit down and shut up and continue to bear the cost of Bidenomics, watch the billions sent to Ukraine with homelessness and crime on their streets, and the childhood and future of their kids stolen by radical sexual deviants disguised as teachers.
They criticize and demean Gaetz and company as they remain clueless. They know nothing and learn nothing.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. Conservatives in general have already conceded way too much ground. Ds never concede, they always push their agenda
Michael - I just responded this morning to a FB post from a fellow conservative who was very down on Gaetz and the GOP over what Gaetz and the 7 others did.
For me the bottom line is that we need change as we cannot keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results (insanity). What Gaetz did was a change, and at least a step in a different direction. My vote now is for Jim Jordan to give it a try. And IF, and it's a big IF, the rest of the GOP approve the vote will show the Dems that the GOP too can be united and then if the GOP picks up the gauntlet for the 'People' - us Deplorables, then the Dems will be left to do nothing more but use word play.
Once the GOP gets it together the road ahead might be bumpy - but at least it's a road, unlike what they have today. And this country might just stand a chance for survival.
