Suspicious Minds
We're caught in a trap and can't walk out. We can't go on together with suspicious minds.
Usually, when there is nothing untoward in a public event, people on opposing sides have no issues in looking into things that just don't look right.
For example, if a performer cancels a concert at the last minute by claiming illness - but is rumored to have been seen partying later that night, the people who bought tickets have a right to know what really happened. If the performer was really sick (and just tracking down his doctor at that party), he would want his audience to know the real story.
In the "hanging/pregnant chad" debacle after the 2000 presidential election, neither party tried to stop the other one from looking into the situation, I think because neither party did anything before the counting started to unduly influence the election either way. That came after when the Gore campaign only wanted to recount the Democrat favorable counties and expanding the standards to incorporate "the will of the voter" by counting punch cards that didn't have the chads punched out, but were "pregnant" as if the voter just didn't punch hard enough.
Fast forward twenty years and it has become an unpardonable sin, the penalty of which is decapitation, to even suggest that things that looked squirrelly before the election or during the counting might just have had an impact on the outcome.
If there ever existed a process that relies solely on the confidence of the people to be considered legitimate, it is the process of our elections.
Of course, it is anecdotal (because we have been forbidden to look), but methinks the left protests too much over investigations into election issues. They are so terrified that they will go to the lengths of penalizing anyone who even questions the legitimacy of the 2020 election (the J6 protesters) and to attempt to imprison the candidate who allegedly lost (the Trump indictments).
Does any of this seem rational to you?
If the 2020 election was truly the "most secure ever", even though the left was claiming 2016 wasn't and just weeks before the 2020 election they were screaming about how Mitch McConnell and the Senate had don't nothing to strengthen and secure the 2020 process, does it make sense that the Democrats want to prevent any questions?
If you tell me that nothing is wrong and let me look for myself, I'm going to be more likely to believe that nothing was wrong than I am if you threaten me and do everything within your power to stop me from looking. Do that and I'm going to be asking some questions.
No doubt there were some idiotic claims in 2020 and the judicial system, including the Supreme Court, punted using lack of standing to avoid even looking.
I believe the illegitimate 2000 claim that Bush was "selected, not elected" in a 5-4 decision weighed on John Roberts. But the only thing SCOTUS did in the 2000 matter was to say that Florida had already adopted standards for counting and recounts and they must follow them. SCOTUS recognized the constitutional duty of the states to run the elections, so they changed nothing.
I still contend there was massive fraud due to the mailing out of ballots, much of which were due to rules changed in violation of state constitutions that put official ballots in the hands of people with less than pure motives combined with the reduction of rigor of signature verification and the lack of transparency of the vote counts should be analyzed before the 2024 election.
The Democrats are already trying to lock in the "emergency" voting processes implemented during the pandemic.
Makes me think they have something to hide.
I think the old saying goes - the lady doth protest too much. In this case the lady is the Democrats and each time something is mentioned about looking into the 2020 election ballots you hear their screams of protest with statements about conspiracy theory to racism being levied against the pursuer(s).
To them the ends do indeed justify the means even if the means are lying, cheating and stealing.
Me thinks the watchers are too defensive. Were the elections and watchers were on the level, all would have flowed more smoothly.
