Rust Never Sleeps
Roe or no Roe, the argument over abortion will continue until we figure out how to prevent unwanted pregnancies at the point of conception.
We on the right have won a few victories. It is hard to categorize the overturn of Roe and Casey, the decision in Bruen and Kennedy v. Bremerton as anything else.
It’s OK to take a little pleasure with those as long as we remind ourselves that none of those means the fight is over.
Patrick Henry wrote:
“It is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the song of that siren, till she transforms us into beasts. Is this the part of wise men, engaged in a great and arduous struggle for liberty? Are we disposed to be of the number of those who, having eyes, see not, and having ears, hear not, the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation? For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst and provide for it.”
One thing engineers know is that rust never sleeps. It continues night and day, year after year – and if it is just painted over rather than eliminated, it continues working underneath that pretty coat of paint. Politically, the left is rust, eating away at the foundations of America.
And the rust of the left continues today.
Even though a national allowance (I refuse to call it a “right”) for abortion was ended with the overturning of Roe and Casey, just as the “trigger laws” were ready to codify abortion restrictions in certain states, the lawsuits against those same restrictions were already waiting to be filed.
The other aspect of someone leaking Alito’s draft majority opinion a few months ago, was to allow the lawyers for the left to get ready.
On Saturday morning, the Planned Parenthood Association of Utah and American Civil Liberties Union of Utah filed a lawsuit against the state. The suit says the trigger law violates rights bestowed unto families in the state constitution.
On Monday, a Utah judge issued a temporary restraining order (14 day) to stop the implementation of the Utah law.
Utah law covers all of the hysterical pompam horribilium (parade of horribles) the left has used to stir up the abortion fetishists.
An abortion is legal in Utah if:
It’s done before viability (in Utah, 18 weeks is the standard) or if the fetus is unable to live outside the womb;
It’s necessary to save the woman’s life or health;
The woman is a victim of rape or incest that resulted in the fetus; or
The fetus has a uniformly diagnosable and lethal defect.
There is no requirement for residency in Utah or elsewhere as Doe v. Bolton in 1973 (the companion case to Roe v. Wade) decided that it unconstitutional for one state to deny medical care to out of state residents while in the state.
But, as Patrick Henry said, we must know the whole truth, and that truth is that evil never stops and as much as I hate to say this about fellow Americans, there is a political party that represents evil. The Democrat Party has listened to the siren and have been turned into beasts.
Abortion is the taking of a life.
I don’t care when you believe that fetus becomes a person, whether it is upon conception, at 8 weeks or 18 weeks, willfully ending a pregnancy prevents a life from ever coming into existence. Arguing the rest is just semantics.
I understand the political reality, the need for a political solution, but as a person who believes human life begins at conception, I still grate at the 18 weeks Utah provides. I understand it, but I can’t square the logic.
It seems contradictory that a single celled organism discovered on Mars would qualify as life and here on Earth, the mere destruction of an eagle’s egg can be punished by up to $100,000 in fines and 1-5 years in prison. Nobody would argue that a single celled organism will become a person, but we do recognize that an eagle’s egg has the potential to become an eagle.
People can delude themselves that the fetus is a “tumor” or a “cluster of cells”, but that is just a Satanic lie, a vow of loyalty to Moloch.
At some point, reasonable people must ask, “At what price liberty? Is liberty that produces or is rooted in evil really the liberty we seek?”
The root of the abortion issue is not whether a fetus is a baby, it is the preservation of a libertine lifestyle that purports to place women on equal footing men with respect to sexual liberty, careers, etc. Pregnancy has been relegated to disease status, something that must be cured and due to that view, abortion has become birth control, a procedure of convenience.
The solution is to prevent unwanted pregnancies at the point of conception.
Abstinence works every time it is tried, but sex for recreational pleasure is a libertine carnality trait of humans, so abstinence is never going to be an effective strategy.
Given today’s plethora of birth control methodologies and their effectiveness, I would be for making all methods of birth control over the counter and $1 a month. For goodness’s sake, make tubal ligation or vasectomies outpatient procedures and 100 bucks a pop for those who want them. Hell, if medical science can cure sleep apnea with that Inspire thing, why can’t we come up with a valve to implant that temporarily closes off both the fallopian tubes and the vas deferens during sexual intercourse.
Hell, ask Elon Musk to take a look at it. He knows how to control rockets and where they land.
All kidding aside, until we figure this out, the argument over abortion is never going to end, Roe or no Roe.
The battle continues.
The battle lines are drawn and the opponents on both sides are aware of the stakes. My Trump 2024 bumper sticker got my car vandalized last Saturday. A friend of nearly sixty years (a Progressive Democrat) told me last Friday that I should move to Texas and shoot myself. I tried to communicate with him today and he hung up the phone.
The constant barrage of hatred being produced and promulgated by the media makes me feel like I am living in the movie INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS.
This was excellent! We have a long battle ahead of us, that’s for sure. I live next door in Colorado and our near-supermajority Democratic legislature and compliant idiot governor encoded in the state constitution the right to an abortion at any time up to birth (and even that’s a little fuzzy). There was no similar lawsuit that I have found against this evil by the toothless Republicans in the state or by conservative organizations.
