Reject Critical Race Theory
If America needs a critically constructed theory on race, this is most certainly not it
Yesterday, I spoke to the Standards and Assessment Committee, a subcommittee of the Utah State Board of Education. I spoke against the injection of Critical Race Theory in the public-school curriculum.
There were others offering public comment; however, I was the only one clearly speaking out against CRT.
Of course, as is the current fashion, the committee members and several of the public commenters brought their buckets of “equity” hand grenades and began immediately tossing the buzzword “equity’ into the discussion with reckless abandon. It seemed that in a room full of Jill Biden “doctor” types, only an extreme minority knew that “equity” was not the same as “equality”.
Equality means everyone has the same opportunity. Equity means productivity is taken from the producers and redistributed to the less productive to level the outcome. In essence, the high performers must be throttled so that nobody is better than anyone else.
While I was the only one to voice the words “Critical Race Theory”, the committee members and several public commenters avoided the title while describing the underpinnings of the so called “theory” in their views of the “underserved minorities” and the need to assure racial “equity”.
It was, and is, so frustrating to see allegedly educated, thinking people succumb to what amounts to a fabrication of reality, a fairy tale designed to appeal to people who lack self-confidence to the point of self-hate.
There are just a few simple things you need to understand about Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Critical Race theorists (CR theorists):
CRT relies on postmodernist absurdity to such a degree that war is peace, freedom is slavery and ignorance is strength. Successful black Americans are called race traitors or even black white supremacists. Successful blacks like Clarence Thomas, Thomas Sowell and Candace Owens are said to be slaves and mouthpieces of their white masters.
Critical race theorists are poor role models, they become celebrated and enriched by getting paid to write fact-free and childish fairy tales about how terrible it is to be a member of such a group. Ta-Nehisi Coates, Ibram X. Kendi and Robin Di Angelo come to mind.
Facts have no effect on Critical Race Theory. In the mind of a critical race theorist, guilt and innocence is relative. Alex M. Johnson, a leading CR theorist and the current James C. Slaughter Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Virginia, once said “it is perfectly acceptable…if that which is presented as the truth turns out not to be objectively true…”, explaining the race hoaxes perpetrated by the alleged victim class never get critical examination - because in the mind of the CR theorist, the perpetrator must have been a victim of some terrible racially motivated act that drove them to commit the hoax, even if they did it to themselves or they simply BELIEVE they had been wronged in some way. Patricia Williams, currently the University Distinguished Professor of Law and Humanities at Northeastern University and a “scholar” of Critical Race Theory , famously said of Twana Brawley (who lied about being raped by four white men, caused riots and gave us Al Sharpton) that she didn’t think it mattered whether Brawley was lying or telling the truth about being a victim of a racist assault because she was “the victim of some unspeakable crime. No matter who did it to her – and even if she did it to herself.”
CR theorists gave up on the Western tradition of logical enquiry (because anything Western is racist) long ago, preferring to rely on narrative and fictional storytelling designed to expose the all-encompassing, destructive, and debilitating racism of today’s society. By foreswearing logical argument, empirical data, rational, reasoned argumentation and debate, they only enforce the stereotypes that the intellectual capacity of non-white racial groups is less than that of whites who do hew to Western intellectual traditions.
Critical race theorists are often deeply misinformed about the conditions of the groups about which they write and opine, often claiming that the racial situations in America are worse than at any time since the Civil War when, by no objective measure, is this accurate.
A significant amount of the CRT is based on claims of black supremacy based in the looney ideas of “Afrocentrism” - things like whites are ignorant sub-human devils because they do not possess enough melanin, that great accomplishments credited to whites were actually achieved by African blacks (the ancient Greeks stole their main cultural achievements from black Egyptians; Jesus, Socrates, Cleopatra and even Beethoven were black), and ancient Africans discovered America thousands of years before Columbus.
Blacks have achieved much and to discount their achievements in favor of the fake scholarship of Critical Race Theory is the real crime. CRT retards rather than advances black Americans by adopting the perspective that black successes are the product of blacks who are “acting white”. Black history is history, CRT is indoctrination.
Critical Race Theory is beyond stupid, vapid “scholarship”. It achieves exactly the opposite of the goals it claims. Above all, it is a convenient excuse to avoid rationally and factually considering the state of race relations in America and as such, is destructive and dangerous.
If America needs a critically constructed theory on race, this is most certainly not it.
