New Year's 2024 Day of Objectivity
Compare the major political parties. There are differences, and those differences are stark.
Yesterday, I launched my year of being authentic with my “New Years Day of Objectivity”.
I began with the question of which of the major political parties is objectively better or worse than the other, and setting aside personalities within the parties, which is worthy of popular support. I based my criteria on which political party creates, enacts, and supports policies and actions that are good for America, and which one doesn’t.
In all honesty, if I didn’t use the “lesser of two evils” criteria, I would objectively need to report that neither of the two political parties is worthy of leadership.
Both failed in tests of leadership, honesty, acting in the public good, financial acumen, fiscal responsibility, not doing something just because they can, and being able to see beyond their own struggles for power.
My short assessment is America has one party, the Democrats, with staggeringly bad policies for America, but the cajónes to enact them - and another with generally decent policies, the Republicans, who seem to be overcome with cowardice when it comes time to fight or lead.
And before anyone says it is no surprise that I say that because as a conservative, I would naturally gravitate toward any party that represented even a modicum of conservativism, I would counter that with my observations that the Democrats have enacted more harmful policies that have real time, observable consequences than any party during my lifetime.
Consider these few:
Illegal immigration: even Democrat cities and states are recognizing how bad uncontrolled immigration is and what it is doing to even the most “progressive” of cities. Of course, the Democrat leadership in these jurisdictions are running the same old playbook, rather than taking control of the border, we just need to spend more money the problem will go away.
Taxation: They scream we just need to “soak the rich” even as they actively take more people off the tax rolls – and with illegal immigration, add even more to the bottom rungs of the economic ladder. It has long been pointed out that if all the assets were taken from the top 400 wealthy families and individuals, that one time confiscation would pay roughly 36 weeks of operation of the US Federal government.
Economic policy: Enacting policies that amount to buying off the poor with taxpayer money because a country that runs perpetual deficits, devalues its own currency, inflates away government debt while borrowing more, is “rich”.
Social policy: We are seeing policies promoted, groups protected, racial preferences given, and social deviancy ignored in historic degrees. Democrats openly support transgenderism, racism, antisemitism, and putting legal citizens below illegal immigrants in terms of rights and government services.
Education policy: Dumbing down America in service of diversity, inclusion, and equity even though the earliest results are dovetailing with predictions of catastrophe. Plagiarism and dishonesty at the highest levels of academia, mainstreaming of racial hatred, treating envy as a virtue instead of a vice, and openly supporting the enemies of Israel and America are available to witness every day.
Governmental policy: Government no longer listens to the people from which its power is derived. From a functional perspective, it has been dominated by a liberal bureaucracy which naturally advances Democrat agendas and retards anything else. State and federal governments and their agencies have been actively putting their finger on the scales at election time, with 2020 finally revealing how far the US government will go to get its candidates elected. Government has become the constituency of the “establishment” Democrats AND Republicans, to goal of which is to take power out of the hands of the people and retain it within a technocratic ruling class.
Foreign policy: In two words: appeasement and weakness. This is a government that reserves strong action to deploy against our allies. The current regime goes on about how their half-measures are “defending democracy” in Ukraine and in the next instance tells Israel not to be too harsh on terrorist organization that attack their people. Is a frequent international traveler, I have no confidence holding an American passport protects me in any way - that was not true when I began traveling for business back in the 90’s.
I could go on.
I invite any Democrat to tell me why they think the policies and actions I listed above are good for America. All I see is an agenda of punishment for America’s alleged sins.
As for the Republican party, my blame goes to them for not having the courage to stop the Democrats.
With a very few notable exceptions, Republicans opt for political theater and strongly worded letters, neither of which do anything to stop Democrats. They investigate for years on end and do nothing. It’s been the same old story since the Bob Michel was the Republican leader from 1981 to 1995, go along to get along. Republicans are pathologically afraid to lead and will turn on any member who doesn’t fall in line.
While Democrats are objectively much, much worse than Republicans, both major political parties are far more concerned with their own survival than what is good for America.
They all need to get “authentic”, and get there pretty damn fast.
I counter that the politicians of today are being authentic, if the word authentic refers to being honest to one's self. Our Congressmen & Senators have decided what they want most & are doing everything they can to achieve that goal. They want continued uber payments from donor recipients who benefit from said lawmakers influence.
We as constituents are merely a pesky thorn in their side, while they continue to prosper by creating policies that have little regard for their constituents.
It should be an honor to serve our nation, not a career choice.
