Monument Crashers

For the American political left, history is a crime, punishable even in death.

The Monument Crashers are at it again, this time removing a monument at Arlington that is not celebrating the Confederacy, it is honoring a reconciliation of the nation - but anything the historically ignorant feel is related to half this nation has to go, right?

Once the monuments are gone, one wonders if the left will enact something like the British did with the 1752 Murder Act that placed the post-mortem punishment of the corpse at the center of the criminal justice system, stipulating that the bodies of all convicted murderers were to be either publicly dissected or hung in chains.

All of this reminds me of why communists are always and necessarily authoritarian - they can never stand dissent of any form. In truth. it is why all authoritarian regimes always set about the destruction of any representation of the past.

Marx wrote:

"In bourgeois society, the past dominates the present; in Communist society, the present dominates the past."

Hayek noted this tendency in "Road to Serfdom" writing:

"The worst sufferer in this respect is the word “liberty.” It is a word used as freely in totalitarian states as elsewhere. Indeed, it could almost be said that wherever liberty as we know it has been destroyed, this has been done in the name of some new freedom promised to the people. Even among us we have planners who promise us a “collective freedom,” which is as misleading as anything said by totalitarian politicians. “Collective freedom” is not the freedom of the members of society but the unlimited freedom of the planner to do with society that which he pleases. This is the confusion of freedom with power carried to the extreme. It is not difficult to deprive the seat majority of independent thought. But the minority who will retain an inclination to criticize must also be silenced. Public criticism or even expressions of doubt must be suppressed because they tend to weaken support of the regime. As Sidney and Beatrice Webb report of the position in every Russian enterprise: 'Whilst the work is in progress, any public expression of doubt that the plan will be successful is an act of disloyalty and even of treachery because of its possible effect on the will and efforts of the rest of the staff.'"

Since this idiocy started, I have believed this destruction isn't about the idiotic idea that statues must be removed because they offend some oatmeal brained people, it is to remove any evidence from history there was ever opposition to the ruling class.

They don't care about opposition to slavery, what they care about is that the Confederate monuments remind them of is that there was once a war fought by people who opposed government, that there once was a threat to the central power in the nation.

The Taliban did it in Afghanistan, destroying the Buddhas of Bamiyan, two 6th-century monumental statues carved into the side of a cliff in the Bamyan valley of central Afghanistan. ISIS destroyed the antiquities in Palmyra, an ancient city in Syria, showing its followers that it is doing its religious duty by destroying "unreligious" objects.

What the Democrats and their leftist allies are doing is no different. They must destroy "unreligious objects" because they threaten their ideology, the same reason radical Islamists believe ancient representations of culture and religion threaten their theology.

The radical Democrats will not let the Civil War dead be honored in their death sleep, even in America's national cemetery. Their centuries old peace must be destroyed to serve the collectivists contemporary thirst for total power over everything, including history.

This is also why 51% of the 18-24 age group surveyed recently replied in the affirmative when asked if Israel should be “ended and given to Hamas and the Palestinians".

This is not a rational position based on history, this is an example of history being erased in secondary schools and universities and replaced with ignorance and indoctrination.

Once you understand that for the American left, literally no action is about anything other than power and control, the truth comes into clear focus.
