I'm Just an Excitable Boy
Watching the left's agenda unfold in America is like listening to a Warren Zevon song.
“I went home with a waitress
The way I always do
How was I to know
She was with the Russians, too?”
~ Warren Zevon, “Lawyers, Guns and Money”, from the album “Excitable Boy” (1978)
Really apropos of nothing, I just miss Zevon’s creativity and his music and the way it always puts me in a weirdly elevated and contemplative mood.
Zevon was a master satirist, managing to take socially unacceptable situations (and often morose ones) and wrap them in great lyrics and a catchy tune to make them enjoyable, uplifting and more often than not, using them to illustrate the stupidity of human society thereby mocking it.
From “Excitable Boy” to “Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner” to “Werewolves of London” to “Lawyers, Guns and Money”, there is mirth, satire and ultimately, truth.
Plus, I just wanted to quote him given we are still in the fecal matter with the damn Russkies!
But as it turns out, Zevon’s music is apropos, it just took a few minutes for my strange mind to make the connection. God must be guiding my mind because there is no way I could have made the connection on my own.
In a flash of insight, I realized that right now, watching America go through this current phase is a lot like listening to a Zevon song. Even though the Obama/Biden administrations are digging up our graves and building cages with our bones, there are many reasons to be optimistic during these dusky days.
“Are you nuts?!”, would be an appropriate reaction, I know but I know that, like everything the Democrat left conjures up, the reasons for the current gloom and doom can't be sustained because they are not real.
Sure, feelings of impending gloom and doom are the order of the day because those feelings are real - and they are here - but what is causing the gloom and doom is most assuredly NOT real. They are so unnaturally ridiculous, absurd, and contradictory, the sane among us just know they cannot last.
It is a massive construct, and like all constructs, when it can no longer be supported it will fall.
Lies and unreality take a lot of time, money, and energy to prop up and the Democrats are running out of all three.
Look at what we are told do believe – men can get pregnant, sex is just a costume that can be changed any time the wearer desires, money can be created without consequence, Joe Biden is not senile, we can live without hydrocarbon energy, the truth is a lie, war is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength and Hunter Biden is not a national security threat – none of which can be maintained without huge efforts from the elite ruling class.
And all it takes to reverse our Worse-Than-Carter Malaise is to stop doing what the Global Resetters, Obamaites and Bidenistas have done/are doing.
That’s it. That’s all it takes.
I find a lot of hope and solace in the fact of the left’s total failure.
Of course, they are selling you hopelessness by the bushel, largely because that is all they have.
They have completely failed to bring about Utopia, and of course, they will blame you for that. However, since they are victims of a mass self-righteous messiah/savior complex the only explanation for their failure is that if they couldn’t build the socialist paradise, nobody could have done it. They are the smartest, strongest, and best looking among us and if they failed, it is because it simply can’t be done.
And for them, it is Utopia or nothing, so in true Chicken Little form, the sky is falling and you must be punished for your insolence and disbelief in your betters.
Forgive me for my moment of happiness in the middle of their hubris, arrogance and the worst economy, the weakest foreign policy positions, and the most social unrest since the Summer of Love – but believe there are reasons to be happy, mostly because I believe we are nearing the end of this current phase of man-caused chaos.
That doesn’t mean we won’t go through this again in the future because we will. In the words of Rudyard Kipling:
As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man---
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began: ---
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her mire,
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;
And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!
I have always said that American progressives and socialists don’t hate capitalism. They want just enough capitalism to pay for their adventures in socialism. They need something to create wealth to cover their debts and mistakes.
The fact is that Western Civilization and the American form of capitalism is incredibly resilient and needs very little oversight to operate effectively and fairly. You leave it alone and it prospers, it only begins to shudder and creak when people believe they are smarter than the free market. It says something in the age of supercomputers and quantum computing that they still can’t even predict the weather beyond a few days.
Don’t worry, be happy. Hang in and hold on because reality will prevail and we, the sane, are on the side of reality.
Those are positive thoughts and a joy to see in print, but I can't help but think of Aaron Jastrow in Herman Wouk's WINDS OF WAR. The world of Biden is upside-down. Where once America was a "shining city on a hill", it is now a diseased dung hill. The boogie man Putin finally stood up to the encroachment of NATO and we are likely to be embroiled in a third world war before the GOP has a chance to undo the damage Biden and his radical antisemites have done to our society.
Even during the Vietnam war I never felt this way; but now America is the Bad Guy, leading the West to a world without values.
PS. I miss Warren Zevon, too.
"...American progressives and socialists don’t hate capitalism. They want just enough capitalism to pay for their adventures in socialism. They need something to create wealth to cover their debts and mistakes."
That's a damn good quote right there all alone.
