Hysteria

Connecting the unconnectable is a mental illness - and a basis for progressive "logic".

In philosophy there are many schools. There are empiricists who state that knowledge comes only (or primarily) from sensory experience. There are the hedonists who argue that pleasure is the primary or most important intrinsic good. There are the idealists who assert that reality, or reality as we can know it, is fundamentally mental, mentally constructed, or otherwise immaterial. There are realists who tend to believe that whatever we believe now is only an approximation of reality and that every new observation brings us closer to understanding reality.

One of the prime notions of physical science is Newton’s Third Law, that every action has an equal and opposite reaction – essentially, everything has a Yin and a Yang, thereby keeping the universe in balance. It would be logical to assume that the world of philosophy is not immune to physical laws.

The word “hysteria” arises from Latin hystericus “of the womb,” from Greek “hysterikos” meaning “of the womb, suffering in the womb,” as it was coined as a definition for irrational, emotional actions observed in the female of the species. Over time, the word lost its misogynistic, sexist connotation and came to describe “a state in which your emotions (such as fear) are so strong that you behave in an uncontrolled way.”

Is that not an apt description of those creating “trigger warnings” about “microaggression” and accusing conservatives of supporting “rape culture” on campus for even suggesting that it is a media generated crisis?

A while back feminists were discouraging clapping at a gathering in favor of “jazz hands” because the clapping noise upset the more sensitive feminists and now if parents don’t want their daughters to be forced to undress in full view of a male (of any age) who claims to be a girl are “transphobic.”

A police officer legitimately shoots a young black man and even though police kill more whites every year, they are accused of “hunting young black men.” Republicans who just talk about entitlement reform want to starve the elderly, women, and children. Trump firing thousands of federal workers to cut cost is acting “indiscriminately” – and if those groups include a veteran, Elon Musk is waging a war on veterans.

No justice, no peace.

We see it all over. The progressive left has become the home of the Hysterical School of Thought. If you opposed Obama due to his socialist/collectivist beliefs, you are obviously a racist. If you opposed his executive orders because you are against stretching the Constitution to its breaking point – yep – racist, too. Oppose Islamist terrorism – bigot. Oppose an unqualified female running for president – sexist. Oppose forcing a Christian business to bake a cake for a gay wedding – extremist homophobe. If you oppose higher taxes and bigger government, you are a racist, bigot, sexist, AND extremist homophobe.

Even the most insignificant scintilla of opposition to the progressive agenda is met by a flock of screeching, clawing harpies – ready at a moment to rend the “offender” to shreds with talon or claw. Every issue regardless of triviality must be conflated to be the “greatest danger to America today” if it diminishes the progressive brand and the convoluted “logic” they use to connect events or words that are completely unconnected borders on mental illness.

This Daily Beast headline is all over social media:

“’Don’t Tell Melania’: Trump Once Offered Rising MAGA Star His Bed.”

It was Anna Paulina Luna, who was travelling with Trump on his private plane – with her husband and heavily pregnant. Luna confirmed that Trump saw that she was not feeling well and offered the bed for her to get some rest.

So, they took an innocent action and turned it into something salacious, knowing their rabid followers would never read more than the headline.

The Age of Hysteria is upon us.

The difference this time is that most normal people are not buying it.
