I have written that “Judge not lest ye be judged”, a snippet from Christ’s great Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:3—7:27), is one of the most misunderstood and misapplied teachings in Scripture by both believers and non-believers alike.
When Christ said “Judge not lest ye be judged”, He was telling the masses gathered at the Mount to be careful judging others based on their own standards because those are by which they would be judged. He was warning that substituting the standards of mankind for those of God was a dangerous place to go.
Allow me to present a current example for your consideration:
One would think numbers would be safe from judgement, largely because they are discrete. No matter what anybody says, three fingers are more than two and five is more than three – but we use numbers to judge, to find little cubbyholes to place pieces of information so we can organize it in our minds and turn it into something useful.
Gas prices are recent sets of numbers drawing public focus because they have a direct and immediate impact on our daily lives.
Let’s say, for example, that the national average of gas went from $2 a gallon to $4.87 a gallon and then, shortly after peaking, fell to $4.29. What should be the judgement here? Should it be that we are glad that gas is now 12% cheaper than it was last month, or should we be concerned that it is still over 200% higher than it was a year ago?
The White House touts the former while the public is still saddled with a gas bill that is twice what it was a year ago.
Which is right? Both are true, but only one gets at the truth that matters. A 12% decrease is immaterial compared to a doubling of the price. The White House is basing their comments on a political standard, the public on an objective standard.
That’s judgement based on the correct standard, that of reality.
The American Left is too busy shifting the standards to which they are compared to notice how ridiculous they appear to the public. They are spending more time moving the goalposts than playing the game and people of good will on both sides are noticing, but those in power just don’t care. Everyone in America should be shocked at how stupid the political elite think the people are.
People can only be fed crap for so long before they realize it ain’t chocolate pie.
The White House press conferences have always been opportunities for the current administration to put their spin on the facts but especially under the Obama and Biden administrations, they have become a daily class in Orwell’s Newspeak where a recession is not a recession, abortion is a compassionate act of love, gender “reassignment” is healthcare, a president who has no power to stop gas price increases has the power to reduce them, all white people are racists and where building a border wall that once was a human rights violation is now a humanitarian act.
You are not supposed to notice, much less judge. You are not only required to swallow every bit of this tripe, but you must also love and celebrate it – or else.
But hey, the non-judgmental left has always been judgmental.
In the progressive’s Bible, if they had one, Jesus’ words would be, “Judge not because that is our job.”
George Bernard Shaw was a prominent 19th century progressive and steadfast in his love of socialism and respect for the Soviet Union. He was also a loathsome individual, someone who believed people should stand in the dock and be forced to explain why they were a benefit to society and if that could not be done satisfactorily, they were better off dead. Shaw’s sentiments were captured in his own recorded voice:
“You must all know half a dozen people at least who are of no use in this world, who are more trouble than they are worth. Just put them there and say Sir, or Madam, now will you be kind enough to justify your existence? If you can’t justify your existence, if you’re not pulling your weight, if you’re not producing as much as you consume or perhaps a little more, then, clearly, we cannot use the organizations of our society for the purpose of keeping you alive, because your life does not benefit us, and it can’t be of very much use to yourself.”
It is incredibly interesting how the proverb in Galatians 6:7 “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap” intersects with Saul Alinsky’s Rule #4 “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules."
The Biden administration has been the pinnacle of two aspects of peak progressivism, 1) its total reliance upon deception to survive and 2) its complete desperation when the public sphere is so saturated with lies it can accommodate no more.
Natural law is both inescapable and applicable to all things.
In the natural world, when the soil is completely saturated with rain, floods and landslides occur, altering the natural landscape in their wake.
I’m not so much sure that we are winning as I am that the left is losing. By judging America by their standards, the left is about to be judged in the same manner.
And it isn’t going to be pretty.
Mark my word, either way, an American renaissance is coming.
We may have to go through Hell to get there, but as Winston Churchill is alleged to have said, "When you're going through hell, keep on going."
#WhiteHousePrivilege is a Democrat birthright when facts are fungible.
At the risk of sounding like a sycophant, I have to once again compliment you on your analysis and writing skill, Michael. Unlike to many of our Substack.com brothers and sisters, you continue to share your knowledge and understanding freely. It may be premature to call you a New Age renaissance man; but I value your articles greatly and I am amazed at your ability to keep posting on such a regular basis.
I hope you are right about the future resurgence of logic and reasoning in society.
