Happy Father's Day
I'm still on psych hold at Facebook, so here is a little something I wrote back in 2016 that still expresses my thankfulness to my children and my wife who made me a dad.
Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there.
Any male can sire a child - that is simply biology - but a man comes to be a father through the lessons taught him by his children. What we learn from our parents is just reference material, the rubber hits the road when he is holding a crying daughter or hugging a son whose whole world has been turned upside down.
He becomes a father the moment he realizes that it is not a job, it is a life-long career and for him, no matter how old his children are, it only ends with the last beat of his heart.
He becomes a father when he learns that there is a time for holding on and a time for letting go, a time when directives given must become advice offered.
A man becomes a father when he understands that there is no love other than unconditional love - and to let his children learn hard lessons on their own hurt him as much or more than it does them but is the greatest love of all because it teaches them about life. He learns the love he receives from his children is greater than any other gift he could ever be given.
A father cannot be a father without children, so to my children - all my love this day and forever.
Thank you for teaching me the lessons well learned.
I love you all.
Amen and amen!!! Peace be with you Michael from one father to another.
