Glory Days
Democrats are remembering their glory days all wrong.
So, Eminem taking a knee in the Super Bowl halftime show seems to be a big deal in certain circles.
He really stuck it to the MAN, didn't he?
So stunning and brave. Very Kaepernicky.
THAT has never been done before...oh, wait...
I guess they didn't notice that under their rules, Mr. Em is one of the greatest cultural appropriators of all time, a white dude making millions in a rap music industry allegedly the exclusive property of American black culture.
I’ll admit didn't see all of it, just bits and pieces. I don’t find the NFL remotely interesting any longer. I would put my interest level somewhere between little and none – and it really wasn’t the politization of the past decade or even the Trump hate – I just don’t identify with any particular team. In other words, I have stopped caring. I just don’t find it entertaining.
Yesterday, I just flashed back and forth to check the score while I was catching up on a couple of books I needed to finish - and then I had to run to the airport to pick up my wife and daughter. I did see a few of the commercials and part of the halftime show and the first two things that came to mind were "tired" and "old".
The themes and actors in the commercials seemed to be aimed at a demographic that peaked a decade or two ago, same with the halftime show. I mean, Slim Shady became a thing in 1999.
Holy Y2K, Batman!
It all just seemed to me to be perfunctory and tired, like something they had to do but really didn't want to do. It was the kind of show you would put on if you had to make a presentation on Monday morning but didn't want to work on it over the weekend.
Even our politics are returning to the pre-Reagan days of the 70's and 80's and I think that has a lot to do with the Democrats yearning for a return to their glory days – before Reagan and before the Gingrich Revolution took the House away from them after 4 decades of control.
But it is like remembering your high school glory days but remembering them all wrong. Remembering how you were the star quarterback or the head cheerleader when you were neither. Scoring the winning TD in the state championship never happened and you didn’t graduate at the top of your class.
I keep hearing Bruce Springsteen’s “Glory Days” playing as the soundtrack for all of this.
You know the thing. Sort of how Resident Biden remembers things that never happened.
The Democrats have been working for years to bring back the USSR so we can fight the cold war all over again - and lose this time, because in their mind, that’s the way it should have ended.
That's how bad they want to erase Reagan.
The woman drowning, waitress sandwiching, Lion of the Senate, Teddy Kennedy, wanted to defeat Reagan so bad, he colluded with the Soviets in an attempt to choke Reagan’s candidacy in its crib. Democrats are so unoriginal; Hillary went back to the Kennedy well for Russian help to do the same to Trump.
On the domestic front, it's Carter all over again. Malaise and stagflation, here we come. Appeasement on foreign fronts is the order of the day. Iran is going to get the bomb; Putin is going to get Ukraine and Xi will make a run on Taiwan as soon as the Olympics are over.
It’s too late to do anything about it. Biden’s first step as president was to undo everything that was working under Trump and let the world know the new hotness is a constant state of confused weakness. His foreign policy is a joke as are the people at the Department of Defense, at the State Department and in the National Security Agency. He has one of the major players in the Trump spying, Jake Sullivan, running national security.
A true know-nothing pinhead if there ever was one.
Like I said, tired and old. New people running a very old and very ineffective playbook.
At least the 74 year-old Larry David was pushing crypto.
Maybe I'm just not their target demo.

Like The 70s Show - but nobody's laughing.
I forgot the Super Bowl was even on.
First one I haven't watched since I was a kid. Which has been a while. I didn't miss it.
