William F. Buckley famously said: "Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views", implying that the liberals of his time simply weren't aware there were other views
Not so today.
They know, they just want to ignore other views by screaming "Russia!" and "disinformation!"
They haven't learned how to debate because they have been taught there is no reason to entertain any other view because theirs is the right and correct position, so their first instinct is to destroy other views by lying about them, attacking the messenger or simply ignoring them.
The NYT's take on the protests at Columbia are "peaceful" and just about "dancing and pizza" are laughable. This is an example of how an alleged "news" operation shifts from passive ignorance directly into active ignorance.
The broadcast media, along with their propaganda outlets on cable, are rushing to give the antisemitic protests a makeover, a glow up, to hide the true ugliness underneath.
It's the mom and dad who dress their hellions up in finery as the kids systematically destroy the family reunion. No matter how much lipstick you put on a pig, it is still a pig.
This past weekend, I had a discussion with a couple of Democrat acquaintances, during which I showed them evidence (most from news sources they would accept as real) what they believed was wrong. They immediately rejected all of it, blaming some shadowy "right wing" influence at, of all places, the NYT, Washington Post, CNN, and MSNBC (there are a number of cases where these outlets actually publish things online that directly contradict what they put on air or in their print editions).
They are extremely curious about me and my positions, not so much about their own. I never see much introspection and self-awareness when I try to talk with our "friends" of the left.
These are not stupid people, they simply choose ignorance and what they call logic is anything but.
I am friends with a Jewish family who has a daughter (a freshman) at Columbia. They moved from Manhattan to Connecticut a few years ago, and like every family, they wanted the best for their kids. I spoke with them on Sunday as the "protests" were spinning up and they had already pulled their daughter after she was physically threatened on her way to the library to study with some friends.
They are lifelong Democrats who bought into the fable that today's liberal Democrats are the defenders of liberty and inclusion. They couldn't understand why the liberal Democrats who control Columbia weren't protecting Jewish students.
Their daughter's experience stunned them into reality.
They did move out of a liberal bubble in Manhattan, but only to another liberal bubble in a community in Connecticut so they never had a reason to question the consequences of their beliefs until their daughter’s experience of threats at Columbia. This was the first time in their entire lives when a material cost (or a potential cost) was imposed on them by an ideology they trusted.
"The only solution is global revolution!" has an entirely different meaning for them today. They understand it isn't just a chant, it is a threat.
They didn't know what was next for their daughter's education.
When asked, I advised them to find a university outside of these rotting pagan cities where the only real "intersectionality" is hatred of anything related to traditional America, and find a university in a small southern town like Oxford, Mississippi (Ole Miss) or just about any SEC school, where she will get a good education and she will be safe.
I don't hold hope the majority of the liberal left will get it, but those with children directly at risk are beginning to realize that it isn't the "vast right wing conspiracy" that conjured up these demons, the liberal left - more pointedly, the America and Israel hating liberal left - is who has served up this witches' brew.
Hillsdale College in MI should be looked at as a preferred place of actual education. They remain unaffiliated with gov. grants therefore unencumbered by that negative influence or btr. stated, rotting effluence.
“The NYT's take on the protests at Columbia are "peaceful" and just about "dancing and pizza" are laughable.”
Sounds like they’re just up to their old tricks. Didn’t they portray the Soviets in a favorable light as they starved their own people.
