Most premises believed by the left require you to believe at least one thing (most often more than one) that is false is true.
A few examples off the top of my head:
For Covid lockdowns, masking, social distancing, and vaccines to be effective, you must ignore the fact that none of the were or are.
For the BLM/ANTIFA protests to be “mostly peaceful”, you must believe that rioting, looting, and arson are legal, peaceful activities.
For transgenderism to be valid, you must believe a man can be a woman, can menstruate and have babies.
For indoctrination of tender age children not to be grooming, you must believe a five-year-old has the mental maturity to weigh all the issues and make an independent determination not to be influenced by overt sexualization.
For Biden to be blameless on the economy, you must believe that government spending has no effect on inflation.
For Biden to be right on the economy, the border and foreign policy, you must believe President Trump was wrong on all of those.
For gun control to work, you must believe criminals obey the law.
For criminal justice “reform” to be valid, you must believe that there is crime simply because we have laws.
For Modern Monetary Theory to be valid, you muse believe that debt can be reduced by borrowing.
For the J6 protest to be an insurrection, you must believe all 200,000+ people there were there to overthrow the government without guns or, you know, actually trying to overthrow the government.
For Trump’s comments on the 2020 election to be a “big lie”, you must believe there was absolutely no voting irregularities, no broken voting regulations and 2020 was the “most secure election in history.”
To believe the Biden administration’s Baghdad Bob imitation, you must believe that you aren’t paying drastically more at the pump, grocery store, or online and there are no shortages in any stores.
For Biden to be an effective president, you must believe his brain hasn’t turned into a cold bowl of oatmeal.
And those are just a few.
But as we all know, when a premise is false, everything flowing from it is also false.
That isn’t partisanship, it is just logic.
Strongly held beliefs are not facts and as my granddaddy taught me, when you start bad, more than often you finish bad. I didn’t know it at the time, but he was parroting Thomas Jefferson from a letter Jefferson wrote to Samuel Kercheval in 1816 saying:
“A departure from principle in one instance becomes a precedent for a second; that second for a third; and so on, till the bulk of the society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery, and to have no sensibilities left but for sinning and suffering.”
Errors compound.
It isn’t that the plans of the progressive left fail because they weren’t tried hard enough, they do touch on the reason when they say their ideas “have never been properly implemented”. The problem is that implementation begins from a false premise, assuring anything that follows - the plans, polices, and their ideology – will fail today and continue to fail tomorrow. Most reach a stage where they are counterproductive to the goal and make the issue worse.
And that is the problem with so many government programs.
They fail across the board because they are wrong from the beginning. So much of the error in government is compounded by the refusal to admit that the problem was not understood, it was ill defined or that government never had the ability or justification to attempt to solve it in the first place – and yet we continue to throw money and resources at it, hoping that it will either it will go away on its own or people will simply come to accept the existence of the thing and ignore it.
That is why nothing every gets repealed or dismantled in our government today.
Of course, this isn’t unique to government, it happens in businesses, charities, church groups – pretty much any organization or aggregation of people created for a purpose – it is just that there are few of these organizations/aggregations that have the resources to waste on failing ideas. Eventually, they run out of money to keep going.
Government is the one entity possessing virtually unlimited resources to continue failure into perpetuity.
The way to stop it is to stop believing things that aren’t true. Some on the left are beginning to understand this. From Bill Maher to Van Jones, some powerful voices are saying, “Just wait a damn minute, that makes no sense at all.”
If telling the truth ends the Democrat Party, then I guess we will just have to suffer through it.
Yes, that was sarcasm.
This post got me a 24 hour psych hold on Facebook. Because I expressed doubt that the government mandated Covid protocols were actually effective, they alleged I broke the "community standards" for posts that might cause harm.
Total crap, of course, but it is what it is.
Problems are created by the Central Planners so they can “fix” them with the canned solutions they have been storing for just the right crisis...
