Disease and Politics

Every disease has a vector, a delivery method.
In epidemiology, a vector is any living agent which carries and transmits an infectious pathogen into another living organism. Agents regarded as vectors are organisms, such as intermediate parasites or microbes.
As much as viruses like the SARS-CoV-2 or Ebola have known vectors and outcomes, governing ideologies have similar characteristics. Mankind has found cures for many vector borne diseases, some they have not. Defense and recovery are possible in many cases, in some the result is still death.
In political science, there are ideological vectors – ideologies that carry and transmit infectious pathogenic ideas across the political environment.
It seems there are two vectors, capitalism and communism, two economic systems that can lead to different outcomes.
Capitalism can lead to liberty or tyranny. Should it trend toward tyranny, there are antidotes and preventive, restorative, and curative prescriptions for capitalism turned tyrannical. Conceived in liberty, capitalist systems tend to be based on government by the people. By design, in these systems, the government exists to serve the people, not the other way around. The people are the antidote.
Communism has always had one endpoint – tyranny. There is no preventive, restorative, and curative prescription for the authoritarian tyranny necessary in a communist system. Conceived in control, communist systems tend to be based on government over people. By design, in these systems, the people exist to serve the government, they are slaves to the plans of the central government. The people are merely the powerless hosts for parasitic government.
Marx had a dream of global communism, eventually leading to a borderless, stateless world - but it isn't communism that is global, it is man's lust for power and his bent for tyranny.
But the truth is neither system is immune from corruption. Regardless of the system of governance, never has Lord Acton's prescription of the relationship between power and corruption been more accurate - power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Left leaning leaders of all descriptions spent the last two years learning how much power they had and how easy it is to accumulate more. Leaders in liberty-based governments are discovering how easy tyranny is to create and justify. Liberty based governance tend to be based on principles rather than laws, and these leaders are discovering how easy it is to bend or ignore principles as they create law out of whole cloth as a way to further increase their power to coerce.
Western tyrants tend to be weak people protected by the power of their offices. They almost always insinuate their way to power as caring, relatively inoffensive caretakers during times of relative peace.
But given the opportunity, they do what all insecure people do. Rather than lead according to principle, they hide behind the power of their office. They always resort to redefining legal behavior as illegal behavior and the use of coercion rather than convincing. Calling and orange an apple does not make it so. As Rand noted in “Atlas”, one cannot rule innocent men, to control them, one must make them criminals.
Might does not make right. Just because you can does not mean you should.
These leaders are now getting in touch with their inner tyrants, choosing coercion and force over acknowledging and addressing the legitimate grievances of the people they govern.
All around the world, Western leaders like Trudeau in Canada, Biden in America, Johnson in the UK, and Morrison in Australia are showing their true colors – and they are not the colors of freedom and liberty.
That’s the bad, but there is also good.
Yes, the tyrants are revealing themselves, but true liberty loving patriots are also being revealed – from Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida to our local Democrat Sheriff of Summit County, Utah, there are people taking stands and defending the principles of liberty. While most Americans are familiar with DeSantis, Sheriff Justin Martinez is not a household name – but Martinez stood firm and refused to enforce the ridiculous pandemic policies concocted by our county public health officials and Democrat dominated county government.
There are several defenders of liberty here in Utah, as I am sure there are in other states. Senator Mike Lee, Representatives Chris Stewart and Burgess Owens, State Senators John Johnson and Ron Winterton, State Representatives Kira Birkeland and Mike Kohler, Utah State School Board members Natalie Cline and Jennie Earl - to name just a few I know.
Regardless of party affiliation, these are the people who deserve our support.
