America has reached the point in a decades old psychodrama where the people who caused our constitutional issues by their actions are worried we will cause a constitutional crisis when we resolve the issues they caused.
I was remembering Andrew Breitbart and that he famously said politics is downstream from culture.
That is why I think most people misread the 2024 election.
I’m not talking about just Democrats here. In a significant way, and even though I was hitting all around it (sort of like a bullseye when I am at the range), I didn’t understand this election was far less political and far more cultural than I anticipated.
Since history can only be understood through the rearview mirror, it seems clear that people voted based on their approval or disapproval of the cultural changes that began to be forced on American people since Obama assumed the Presidency in 2009.
All the blame doesn’t rest on Obama, though. If one examines the forever war policies of the Bush II neocons, many of whom revealed their true selves when they became NeverTrumpers, one begins to see how the “muscular” foreign policy was just a cover for liberty eroding domestic policies that were ripe for abuse - like the Patriot Act and FISA.
Hey – I was all in during that era. I was the problem. I was mad about 9/11 and wanted to wipe those who did it off the face of the Earth. I was thinking emotionally (that is why I recognize that type of thinking so well today) and became focused on a single issue – winning the Global War on Terror.
That began to change early in Bush’s second term, when I began to realize how many people and politicians were in it for the Defense industry kickbacks and never had the will or the resolve to complete the ill-defined mission. Our troops, especially the Spec Ops guys, were stuck in the middle of a deadly game of Whack-A-Mole with ROEs (rules of engagement) designed to mollify the international scolds while guaranteeing a prolonged conflict.
Then came a repeat in 2014 when the Obama/Biden used the State Department via Victoria Newland to set up the Ukraine Laundromat to wash taxpayer money and return it to their patrons in the Democrat and Deep State leadership. Trump cooled that down but with Biden “winning” in 2020, Putin got an engraved invitation from Biden to take more territory and get the laundromat back in operation.
That was at least part of the desire for a course adjustment for America.
Biden was presented as an old, steady hand that could return America to normalcy.
It always seemed strange to me that people would want to turn over the government to the political party responsible for the nearly five years of instability and anger America had just undergone. In thanks for giving Biden and Harris control, instead shifting in reverse toward normal, they stomped the accelerator and in true Thelma and Louise fashion, aimed for the cliff.
And in solidarity, Democrat policies were personified – and these policies were emblematic of the mental illness and pure insanity that had become part of their very being. I pick on transgenderism a lot, but it is such a perfect avatar for how people can rationalize themselves into anything if they just adopt relativism and ignore reality.
Queer Theory, historical revisionism, individual “truths”, transgenderism, Modern Monetary Theory, racially based preferences in medical treatment, systemic racism as the explanation for every societal problem, climate change for every weather event, mandated vaccines that don’t vaccinate (they changed the definition of immunity to cover for this), public health laws and organizations used as a means for societal engineering and control, constant lying, misrepresentation, and misinformation in media.
We just lived through four years of an administration trying out every bad idea from Orwell’s 1984, Huxley’s Brave New World, Rand’s Atlas Shrugged, Golding’s Lord of the Flies, and Cormac McCarthy’s The Road, followed by a campaign season where one party combined Orwell’s Ministry of Truth with Goebbels’ theories of propaganda.
More than rejecting a political party, enough people recognized they had been lied to about returning to normal and that there were powerful forces that were looking to create a new normal.
Thank God it was stopped in time.
The fight is not over. It can revert as quickly as it was defeated. I am comforted that Trump’s ideologically diverse cabinet has something like 60% approval based on polls. That tells me there is a real appetite for change.
Change must come. If we don’t deliver, we will be on the outside looking in – again.
I have faith that we can deliver.
While I like much of what I've been seeing and hearing lately, I still won't be holding my breath. Lucy's yanked the pigskin too many times. I have a modicum of hope and boatloads of skepticism.
Michael, I think you are sensible in thinking that there is a change at foot. However, seeing that DEMS only care about two things - themselves and their agenda, my optimism is still clouded. Remember change can work in many directions and the DEMS are looking to see how they can change their playbook for 2028.
You are so right to remain cautious as the tide can turn quickly. DEMS are in it for the long game and will stop at nothing to achieve their mission. We need to stay vigilant in our efforts to thwart their mission and keep the US on track as the founding fathers created it and which GOD himself has sanctioned. 'For as long as we can keep it'.
