Marxists From Both of America's Political Parties are Destroying America
Loss of agency: you never know what you had until it is gone.
There are several kinds of Marxism:
Cultural
Traditional (Soviet style Leninism)
Trotskyism
Maoism
New Left (or Western Marxism)
And many other sub-variants of each.
But none address the kind of Marxism we are experiencing in the US today.
For lack of a better term, I’m going to call it “Republican Marxism”, using the capital letter “R”, not to signify the GOP, rather to signify the little “r” republic from which this form originates. When one considers it, a republic, with its ready-made centralized structure at the national level, is a perfect Petri dish to start a very quiet Marxist revolution.
All one must do is to break or neuter federalism by relegating the states to a subordinate position rather than in the dominant position outlined by the Constitution (a result of the American Civil War), begin centralizing power in Washington - the Supreme Court has aided in this by making itself the final arbiter of constitutionality (Marbury v. Madison) and finding power for the federal government (that does not exist in the Constitution (as in the use of the Commerce Clause)) to regulate almost everything and by stripping the citizenry of their agency.
I think the first two steps are obvious to anyone with history books. The laws and regulations passed during the Civil War and Reconstruction helped begin the concentration of power in Washington and in the courts and both the outright granting of power to the government though decisions (1937’s NLRB v. Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp. SCOTUS decision, for example) and the act of not acting (think of the lawsuits over the 2020 election that were dismissed for “standing”).
It is the third step, the stripping of agency, that is something that I didn’t really think about until I considers two relatively recent events: the flop of the “red wave” in the mid-terms and the recent actions of the lame duck Democrat House and the Senate Democrats (with help from Cocaine Mitch and the McConnellites).
Simply put, agency can be defined as the feeling of control over events, actions, and their consequences.
I realized we have lost agency after we campaigned so hard for change before the mid-terms, we all thought a message was going to be sent – and to some extent, it was in areas that went red after being blue for a long time, but in the end some votes were counted, some not and some were just denied (as we found out from Kari Lake’s lawsuit in Maricopa County), some messages were heard and simply ignored (as with McConnell’s capitulation to Pelosi and Schumer in the Cromnibus Act of 2022, which completely stripped the new Republican House of the power of the purse for the first nine months of the new Congress). The message that was sent is that the voters have no agency, no influence or control, and no matter how you vote, we are going to use every tool at our disposal to just do what we want no matter what you say.
So, they will allow you to think you have agency, but will snatch it away every time, the same way Lucy yanks the football away from Charlie Brown – and like Charlie, we continue to believe she is going to allow us to kick the football.
Another aspect of the destruction of agency can be found in the state’s actions toward religion. It is now virtually impossible to express religious beliefs in government and its agencies (during Covid, even the military would not recognize religious exemptions) and with each passing day, the public expressions of faith are becoming criminalized.
Think about how anti-abortion protesters have been arrested, some way after the alleged incidents, and while we are not there quite yet, an abortion opponent in the UK was recently arrested for praying in her head while quietly standing in front of a closed abortion clinic.
Nothing quite says Marxism like the Duncan McLeod/Highlander approach, the “there can be only one” attitude toward religious belief. This is straight out of ole Karl’s hat rack, that for communism to be successful, there can be no authority higher than the state and that means God has got to go.
These real incidents should curdle the blood, but they don’t, because in some sense, we have already been conditioned to believe our agency is gone.
I know the first question that comes to mind is “What can we do about it?”
I can see only two alternatives.
We retreat to states where our agency still counts for something, and there are fewer of them than we think (even in Florida, there is a huge push for promoting sexual deviancy on kids through the “drag” movement) and try to set up barriers at the state borders, maybe triggering a resurgence of federalism.
Maybe.
Or we can invade Canada.
There are only about 25 million Canucks up there, and given the trucker’s response to the Covid BS, it seems there are some kindred souls already in place. We could scare up 25 million in an afternoon to surge the Canadian border. They have a confederation up there where the provinces already handle a lot of their own business and kicking Premier Boy Band, Fidel’s son, out of Ottawa doesn’t seem it would be too difficult.
I’m only sort of kidding about that second one.
While it brings out the black humor in most non-Progressives to watch videos of Joe Biden shaking hands with ghosts and stumbling blindly on the White House lawn when his keepers find it impossible to herd him onto a sidewalk, he has accomplished something literally Earth-shaking by putting his signature to a decision by the CIA and State Department to no longer promise not to strike first with nuclear weapons.
Bden's "agency" and the agencies that control him constitute a very present danger to all life on the planet. He has less than five days until the 118th Congress is sworn in. Plenty of time for the invasion of Russia to begin in earnest.
I worry you are right, Mike. The Kari Lake trial proves they no longer have to pretend voters matter. And it seems they don’t, or Arizona voters would be up in arms.
And Canada does not seem like much of a safe haven. They rolled over during the pandemic. Plus it’s even colder up there.
So how do we get our own citizens to care? It seems like except for a few golden oldies like me, the working generation is all in with their masters. I fear there are not enough patriots to stave off a Biden nuclear holocaust. If you don’t have religion, you better get some quick!
