A One-Two Punch Strategy
We are in a 12 round bout with four rounds gone - and we lost three of them.
What follows is perhaps a half-baked line of thought. As in the congressional rules, I reserve the right to revise and extend my remarks - but hear me out. Maybe this is a way to end the Trump/DeSantis feud in a way that gets both what they need and us what we need.
Even in my support, I remained critical of things President Trump did that detracted from the mission we sent him to do. I still support him even when I find his attacks on DeSantis distasteful, dishonest, and unnecessary. I understand how much he wants revenge and how difficult it is to continue above the fray when people are perpetually dragging you and your family through the dirt.
Such would strain the patience of an angel, and as we know, Trump is no angel.
Over the weekend I realized that I, and perhaps the entire GOP, have been looking at 2024 in an all-too narrow perspective. If I use a boxing match as an analogy, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 have been the first four rounds of a twelve-round bout, 2024 is the next one when we get the chance to answer the bell. It is more of a tag team event, since the rules limit each fighter to two rounds, and we need to think if it in those terms.
Given, the GOP leadership is not good at long term strategy, and quite frankly, they actually suck at biennial election tactics, too, but we need to get together at a national level and work a fight plan if we want to win the heavyweight belt once and for all.
The problem is that we apparently have no one at the RNC who can think strategically. Ronna McDaniel, Romney’s niece, is completely unprepared for this dimension of thinking. It is certainly beyond Cocaine Mitch and Kevin McCarthy.
If there ever was a time to get the team together and develop a team strategy, this is it.
We need Trump to win the nomination and the 2024 presidential election.
Why?
Because Trump is the best person to assume the form of the destructor. He is King Kong and Godzilla rolled into one – or he can be.
That is what the left and the Deep State fears the most. This is their fear of all fears that Trump returns with the power and knowledge of how to end them, especially after them having tried for nearly a decade to take him down and failing. We need him on that wall, we want him on that wall. We want him to come off that wall and reap absolute, complete, and total destruction. He will be uninhibited by a need or desire to be reelected and therefore free to do whatever needs to be done. He could assume the role of a sanctioned assassin, with a target list already assembled.
But there will be an aftermath that must be considered. Something must take the place of the smoldering wreckage of the defeated Deep State.
2028 is the beginning of that recovery.
I think Ron DeSantis is the man for the rebuilding using Florida as the model. I don’t see DeSantis having the same appetite for destruction as Trump, but I see him being able to do things that Trump can’t, especially after he marches through DC like Sherman marched through Georgia. DeSantis could either wait on the sidelines or be the VP, although the VP in a second Trump administration might need to be a throwaway position, given the things that Trump should be loosed to do.
Either way, DeSantis would finish his term as governor in Florida, assuring a strong GOP candidate for governor is positioned to take over and DeSantis would, no doubt, be the leading candidate for the nomination for 2028.
I know that we have primaries for a reason. I know we don’t like the party leadership selecting candidates or nominees, but I also know that people in large groups often make bad decisions. Maybe this time, a little structure and strategy is what is needed.
The Chair of the national party needs to become a general (or there needs to be someone filling that role), guiding the moves on the battlefield.
Thoughts? Comments?
I like the logic, but I don't think the powers that be would be on board, not to mention all the 2 bit power hungry potential runners
Michael - I think you are onto something here. How about the following scenario. Trump/? for 2024 - and DeSantis stays in Florida. Whoever the VP is also remains the VP for Desantis, then goes onto Pres. So that gives us, hopefully a 20 year run.
You are also right that we need the long term strategy (or what they would say was the Long-game). The Dems have been playing their long game, and started at both ends to the middle. First Pres/VP and at local school boards and county levels, then they worked towards the middle being governors, AG's, District Court judges and the like.
We need our own game, and perhaps borrow from their playbook too. We need friendly judges, we need strategic local school boards and county people. And we need not stop. Keep the train rolling from day one, laws, executive actions, and whatever else it takes to bring the cabal down.
But more than ever, we need better trainers and coaches, not the go-along to get-along crowd. We need those with backbone, and cajónes to direct, maneuver, manage and counsel. If we need a Boston Tea Party then have been call for it. If we need the wall (which we do) then finish building it. If we need budgets cut (which we do) then cut them. If we need to abolish the FBI - then do so. And on and on and on...
It's time to take back America and keep it. If we don't it's over...
